Astoria kids, lace up your running shoes and get ready to hit the open track for the start of the Astoria Kids Spring Run Club, beginning in April at Astoria Park.
The new youth meet up, located at 19 29th St. in Astoria on the park’s track, starts Saturday, April 11, from 10 to 11:15 a.m., letting kids ages 9-13 of all skill levels have the opportunity to start their weekend building confidence, staying active, and having fun while enjoying the park in full bloom with a waterfront view nearby after a long week of classes and studying.
The club meets every other Saturday, with possible weekday evening dates being added, especially as the days get longer, with each session including warm-ups, running practice, and engaging games, all in a positive, encouraging environment. The kids run club will be led by Projekt NYC’s trained teen coaches, making the space feel fun and uplifting, while offering the youth a great opportunity to connect with other kids their age and develop a fun, new hobby that will be perfect to continue well into the warmer months and longer days of the summer.
The event has limited space with a suggested donation of $5. Families can enroll kids through Projekt NYC’s website.
Projekt NYC is an Astoria-based non-profit organization with a mission to empower the neighborhood’s youth through community service, creative expression, and civic engagement. The group includes youth-led contests, volunteer projects, and literacy programs, from youth maker’s markets, art and poetry contests, summer programs, and more. The Astoria Kids Spring Run Club is the latest of their year-round initiatives to help kids connect with other youths, try something new, and build their confidence.
